Details:

Accurate bowling by Les Elsworth and M. Northcott ensured that Swanage had a slow start, scoring at only two an over for the first half of the innings. Mike Nash battled hard, scoring many of his runs square on the off side. Guy Watson  proved a reliable partner and they put on 39 for the sixth wicket. An excellent spell from off spinner Humphreys saw Watson bowled in the thirty eight over as the third of his victims.  Nash then ensured that Swanage batted out until the last over but the total looked 40 runs short.

Guest fast bowler, P. Stinchcombe gave Swanage hope with two quick wickets but Barry Lewis and A. Booth attacked with gusto, scoring at 5 an over. In his second spell, Guy Watson despatched them both. With Peter Kirby bowling well at the other end, Swanage were able to exert some pressure. Then Elsworth hit Kirby for 20 in an over to seal a comfortable win for Marnhull in the twenty ninth over.

Swanage bowlers made a good start against a strong Ashmore side. Having passed the outside edge of Sam Diment’s bat several times, Ryan Norman finally found it and keeper Dave Puckett took a good catch. The bowlers continued to do well until R.Guy joined Dan Britton. The flood gates opened and these two smashed 90 in the last eight overs. Swanage did not help their cause by dropping Britton three times.

After tea, Sam Diment regularly bounced opener Jonny Clark as he put in a quick spell from the town end. In a thrilling period of play, Clark pulled Diment twice off his helmet and drove him through extra cover, each shot speeding for four. Clark quickly reached a quality fifty before being bowled. Peter Clark now took over with a series of lofted straight drives and pulls over mid wicket. Quickie Dan Britton finally yorked him when he needed one for his century with three balls to go, but not before his determined innings had enabled the home team to make a creditable response.
