Scoreboard: Swanage First Eleven 231 - 6
( C.Wells 125*, T.Edgar 43. )
Cheselbourne 137
( A.Legg 49, G.Kellaway 32. R.Wilcox 5 - 24, C.Wells 3 - 14. )
Result: Swanage won by 94 runs.
Details:
A good spell of outswing bowling by Tony Kellaway made early inroads into the Swanage batting. Craig Wells, who was called in as a late replacement, saw off useful spells by Kellaway and Andrew Legg at the other end. By the time that Tim Edgar came in at number seven, it was clear that Cheselbourne were having to use occasional bowlers. Wells and Edgar, batting with real purpose, put on 111 in ten overs in a display of good running and strong hitting.
Cheselbourne started off at a great pace with Andrew Legg putting Ron Barker twice for six in his opening over. Legg continued to bat well but Ryan Norman and Tim Edgar put the brakes on the scoring rate. When Roger Wilcox replaced Norman, he immediately encouraged a false stroke from Legg and then another off the next ball when he caught and bowled him. Wilcox continued to exploit the wet pitch brilliantly. Cheselbourne could not cope with the combination of his slow seam and Craig Wells’ spin at the other end. They were all out in the thirty eighth over as their remaining nine wickets could only add a further 60 runs.
