Scoreboard. Weymouth Second Eleven 225 - 5
(J.Ryall 71, T.Steadman 63*, T.Bessant 28. P.Kirby 3 - 32.)
Swanage 221 - 4
( J.Clark 66*, C.Wells 60, M.Nash 34.)
Result: Swanage lost by four runs.
Details:
J.Ryall got the visitors away to a fast start as they scored at six an over. When Peter Kirby came on, he first slowed the scoring rate and then caught and bowled Ryall with the score at 107. Varying his flight cleverly, Kirby continued to have a major influence with his left arm spin. However, the other bowlers struggled as number five T.Steadman played with increasing authority. Steadman hit three quality sixes to help Weymouth to put on 82 in the last ten overs.
Craig Wells and Mike Nash put Swanage on target with an opening partnership of 91 before Nash fell to Hardisty. In two excellent spells of bowling, Hardisty and left arm spinner Browse now put the brake on Swanage to such effect that only thirteen runs were added in seven overs during which Wells was caught of a full blooded pull. Needing 84 off the final eleven overs, Jonny Clark now attacked vigorously but Swanage were still 14 short when the last over started with James Harris facing. Three twos and a one came off the first four balls. The fifth was a fast full pitch at chest height. As it was flicked away for two, it was called a no ball by the square leg umpire ( a Swanage player standing in). The official umpire countermanded this call on the grounds that the ball was not a dangerous one. With this point of dispute still in the mind, Clark swung and missed at the final ball leaving Weymouth the victors in an exciting game.

Details:
Opener Charlie Wycherley hit a succession of boundaries in a fine innings which eventually put Swanage in a commanding position. After C.Rattley dismissed numbers two and three cheaply, Tim Edgar helped Wycherley to add 68 for the third wicket. Later John Wormald hit some classic leg side shots including a fine on drive as he masterminded the addition of 43 runs by the tail.
T.McKrel and P. Dickinson blasted nine fours in the opening eight overs off the Swanage bowlers Ryan Norman and Ron Barker. In the ninth over Mckrel hit another four before being bowled by Norman. Supported by wonderful catching, Norman and Barker then had their revenge as they dismissed the next four batsmen in three overs. At 60 - 5, the game was effectively over but J.Samararwick and J.Hughes resisted until Andy Avery finished the game with three quick wickets.
