(C.Wells 151*, J.Clark 44*, M.Nash 24.)
Wimborne Second Eleven 141
( A.MacRae 33, S.Ratcliffe 23, L.Bray 22. P.Kirby 6 - 19.)
Result: Swanage won by 111 runs.
Details:
Craig Wells took the Wimborne attack apart in a prolific innings which amassed more runs than the entire opposition did later in the game. While scoring all round the wicket, Wells was particularly effective in punching fours off the back foot through extra cover and was quickly into position for the pull shot for six over mid wicket. Wimborne were left ruing their failure to take three catches offered by Wells. At the start of the innings, A.Day and L.Bray made batting quite difficult for Mike Nash and Charlie Wycherley, neither of whom got into their stride. Later, Jonny Clark clipped a succession of fours over mid wicket as he helped Wells to add 125 for the third wicket.
In reply, Wimborne were quickly reduced to 11 - 2 by good spells from Phil Holland and Jonathan Maidman. A determined partnership between S.Ratcliffe and A.MacRae was ended when James Harris ran out MacRae with an excellent pick up and throw. When Peter Kirby was introduced into the attack, he varied the flight of his left arm spinners intelligently. In nine economical overs, he destroyed Wimborne’s chances, bowling five of his six victims. A.Day found the boundary with some lusty blows before he was last out in the thirty ninth over, bowled by the returning Maidman. This left Swanage with a welcome and overwhelming victory.

Scoreboard. Mudeford 261 - 8
( J.Tennant 63, A.Fisher 61, M.Pownall 46, G.Tennant 26. P.Kirby 3 - 53.)
Swanage First Eleven 251 - 6
(P.Kirby 88, J.Clark 59, P.Clark 42.)
Result: Swanage lost by 10 runs.
Details:
M.Pownall and A.Fisher gave Mudeford the best possible start with a partnership of 112 full of clean hitting and aggressive running. J. Tennant then took over, hitting a string of fours on the leg side as he and his brother scored at 7 runs an over on the easy paced Swanage pitch. The Swanage fielders stuck well to their task but too many bowlers went off line with leg side deliveries.
After an early loss, Jonny and Peter Clark put together a steady partnership of 94 to get the hundred up before both fell in quick succession. Mudeford were bowling well and it was not easy to reach the required run rate. Then Peter Kirby rose magnificently to the challenge of getting the next 150 with a robust innings. Needing 8 runs an over, he took the aerial route over the nearby canteen as he hit five towering sixes over mid wicket. After Kirby went caught and bowled, Ryan Norman and John Wormald were still scoring well in the last over to cap an excellent effort as Swanage fell a tantalising ten runs short.

Scoreboard. Winton 106
(N.Brown 4 - 28, M.Savage 4 - 44.)
Swanage Second Eleven 107 - 2
(N.Brown 41*, T.Buck 36*.)
Result: Swanage won by 8 wickets.
Details:
After being hammered in all their previous games, the youthful Swanage Second Eleven gained their first win of the season. All rounder Nick Brown led the way in this triumphant reversal of fortune. Winton’s R.Clark and S.Miles put on 51 against Mark Savage and Gwil White before Nick Brown caught Clark off Savage at mid on. Savage bowled with determination and accuracy as he deservedly took three more crucial wickets in his eleven over spell. The introduction of Brown’s leg spinners caused the Winton batsmen big problems. He bowled three of his four victims, one round his legs. A superb run out by Josh White also helped these two to close down the Winton innings in the twenty first over.
In reply, R.Clark bowled fast to take two early wickets before Brown joined opener Terry Buck. Imperturbable as ever, Buck played the anchor role as Brown picked off the wide deliveries to crack them square to the off boundary. Their unbeaten partnership of 92 took the delighted Swanage side to an easy win in the twenty fifth over.
