Date and place of Match: Sunday July 31 st, Away. League: NSA Sunday Division 3.

Scoreboard: Swanage First Eleven 179 - 9

( C.Wycherley 46, A.King 24, M.Nash 22. P.Farrant 3 - 37.)

Broadstone 27 - 2

Result: None owing to rain.

Details:

After David Acklam was bowled by a beauty from left arm swing bowler S.Burton, Charlie Wycherley and Ashley King established the innings before King was caught behind off the other opener, P. Farrant. After 27 overs, Wycherley had taken the score to 100 before a catch ended his valuable innings. It was a slow pitch but all the middle order kept the momentum going, not least Mike Wells who added 16 in an unbroken last wicket partnership with Ron Barker.

After tea, good bowling from Simon Dyson and Ron Barker had Broadstone struggling at 27 - 2 after 13 overs. Then, to general disappointment, rain prevented any result being possible.

Date and place of Match: Sunday July 31 st, at Home. League: NSA Sunday Division 7.

Scoreboard: Swanage Second Eleven 123

(P.Clark 45. T.Jeans 3 - 6, D.Desing 3 - 19.)

Avon Social Club 124 - 5

( R.Thorpe 24, T.Jeans 23*.)

Result: Swanage lost by five wickets.

Details:

After electing to bat on a slow pitch, some poor strokes put Swanage in trouble at 30 - 3. Peter Clark stood firm and, with help from Ian Harris and Lewis Kirby, took the score to 99 before he was caught down the leg side. After that, only Chris Moor made an impression as the innings closed with an over to spare.

At tea the total looked about 25 runs short. Though Swanage fought hard, good application by Avon batsmen proved this correct by taking them to victory in the thirty ninth over. Richard Perry was Swanage's best bowler but the 32 wides and no balls made a much higher contribution to the total than any Avon batsman.
