Details:

Fourth placed Swanage entertained top of the table Wayfarers in a keenly fought contest with some good opening bowling. After Guy Watson had reduced Wayfarers to 15 - 2, J.Jones steadied the ship but number four , A.Skirrow, attacked immediately with some well struck fours and sixes. The introduction of Craig Wells' off spin posed problems for the batsmen. To release the shackles, Skirrow attempted to hit him for six and instead was athletically caught low down near the sight screen by Ryan Norman. Wells bowled Jones with his next ball and another fine boundary catch by Norman gave Wells his third wicket. At the other end, Ian Perry also took three wickets with his inswingers to reduce Wayfarers to 143-8. It was thanks to P. Stacey and J.Stoodley that they managed to reach 180 before the innings closed with two balls to go.

After tea, Wayfarers classy attack presented the Swanage batsmen with all sorts of problems. First change Stoodley particularly impressed with his whippy action bringing the ball right across from outside the leg stump. After Anton Howse was bowled behind his legs, Stoodley came on to hit incomer James Harris' stumps with a fine first delivery. Ian Booth and Craig Wells steadied the ship with Booth driving nicely but Stoodley then rattled the stylish Booth's stumps with an identical ball to the Harris dismissal. When Sellars deceived Jonny Clark with a good slower ball to make the score 95 - 4, Swanage were struggling. Wells and Guy Watson showed tactical sense by playing carefully and, apart from the odd explosive shot from Wells, waiting for the end of Stoodley's twelve overs. Wayfarers' sloppy fielding did not match their bowling and downing Wells four times ultimately cost them the game. With three overs to go, Wells lifted a new bowler for two huge leg side sixes and then smashed the ball past extra cover in a thrilling stroke which emphasised his control and won the game for Swanage.
