Details:
Aggressive play by opener Ian Booth set Swanage on the way to a big score at Day's Park. Booth hit 10 runs off the first over and showed that any wide delivery would be punished. When Andy Croft joined him at 64 - 3, a succession of cut or pull shots to the boundary added 56 quick runs. However, Croft was bowled and Booth was soon caught at extra cover to leave the score at 125 - 5. Guy Watson and Seb Warner had to consolidate for ten overs before they were able to accelerate with fierce drives and quick running between the wickets. Their sensible batting added 85 runs and enabled the home team to set Sherborne a big total on the slow pitch.
After tea, the Sherborne openers found a wayward Ryan Norman to their liking but Guy Watson was starting a superb spell of swing and cut at the other end. Craig Wells replaced Norman to bowl his off spin with guile and Sherborne found the going even harder. After a brilliant low catch by Ian Booth at mid wicket , the score slumped to 66-5 with the first four wickets deservedly going to Watson. Mike Nurton joined his son, Andrew, to repair the situation and a good partnership developed but the required run rate kept increasing. Sherborne were under pressure when captain Wells brought Norman back for his second spell. He immediately trapped Mike Nurton leg before wicket before despatching three tail enders with ease. With the score at 142-9, Andrew Nurton was stranded. When Wells caught him smartly at square leg to end the game, Sherborne had lost their last five wickets for 10 runs to give Swanage a surprisingly easy victory.
