Date and place of Match: Saturday June 14 th,
at Home. League: NSA Saturday Division 2.
Scoreboard: Swanage 231 - 3
( C.Wells 84, G.Watson 56*, P.Kirby 40*, M.Nash 27. )
Blandford Second Eleven 183 - 6
( J.MacPherson 47, B.Way 43*, S.Hannam 24, N.Baker 20.)
Result: Swanage won by 48 runs.
Details:
Craig Wells and Mike Nash gave Swanage the start that
they needed before Nash was unluckily out when the ball
rolled of his glove onto the stumps. Guy Watson joined Wells
to increase the run rate and these two posted a 100 run
partnership of pleasant stroke play on the benign Swanage
pitch. When Wells went for a commanding 84, Peter Kirby
helped Watson to further increase the tempo by hitting two
sixes over mid wicket, thus leaving the visitors with a
challenging target.
After the loss of an early wicket, J.MacPherson and
S.Hannam laid a platform for Blandford. Guy Watson changed
all that by having Hannam caught behind with his first ball.
In a fine spell, Watson continued to bowl wicket to wicket.
51 runs later he bowled the persevering MacPherson and soon
after caught and bowled N.Baker. With only thirteen overs
left, the task of scoring the remaining 112 runs was now
well beyond Blandford, who were content to aim for 170 and
take the last batting point. Guy Watson has now scored 125
runs and taken six wickets in his last two games. His
quality performance with bat and ball made a big
contribution to Swanage’s easy win.

Date and place of Match: Sunday, June 15 th,
Away. League: NSA Sunday Division 3.
Scoreboard: Swanage First Eleven 183
( I.Perry 83, R.Norman 25, P.Barker 23, P.Clark 20.
A.Beale 4 - 39, D.Conduct 3 - 40.)
Sturminster and Hinton 186 - 6
( A.Beale 48*, G.Stockley 28, P.Fowles 26, D.Stockley 21,
A.Rose 20.)
Result: Swanage lost by 4 wickets.
Details:
Ian Perry gave Swanage a magnificent start on a dry pitch
at Hinton St Mary. Using a heavy bat, the ball raced to the
boundary as he drove over the top or powered the short ball
past cover point. Perry had hit fifteen fours and one six by
the time he was out with the score at 112. A useful spell of
inswing bowling from Andy Beale now saw the score slump to
119 - 5. Pete Barker and Sean McLaney steadied the situation
with a combination of watchful defence and vigorous attack
with a partnership of 31. Ryan Norman also batted well
before he became another of Beale’s victims and
the innings quickly folded with ten balls remaining.
Adrian Rose and D.Stockley launched Sturminster with a
flurry of vigorous strokes to score above the rate needed.
However, Tim Edgar dismissed them both and, with more
wickets falling, the score became 114 - 6. Andy Beale now
took charge. Helped by young M.Rose, he hit fiercely through
the covers and over mid wicket to take Sturminster to a
comfortable victory in the fortieth over. Swanage will be
disappointed that they were again unable dismiss a side who
were in deep trouble in the middle of their innings.
