Date and place of Match: Saturday June 7 th,
Away. League: NSA Saturday Division 2.
Scoreboard: Swanage 220 - 8
( A.Howse 76, G.Watson 69. A.Waldridge 4 - 53, S.Giles 3
- 56.)
Shroton 167
( T.Elms 69, S.Sussex 22. R.Norman 4 - 26, G.Watson 3 -
24.)
Result: Swanage won by 53 runs.
Details:
After Craig Wells went early, Ashley King helped Anton
Howse to raise the score to 60 - 2. Guy Watson now joined
Howse in a steady partnership which yielded 88 valuable
runs. Howse’s innings contained thirteen
4’s, some from pleasant straight drives and the
rest through mid wicket. When Howse was bowled by the
persevering Waldridge, Theo Holland and Andy Croft helped
Watson to raise the tempo and add a valuable 73 runs in the
last eleven overs.
Was 220 enough on this small ground? T.Elms played a
watchful innings for the home team, mixing defence with good
attacking stokes, including several lofted drives over the
bowler’s head.. However, Peter Constable made
inroads for Swanage when he took two wickets in his third
over. At the other end, Ryan Norman was bowling his outswing
with rhythm and pace. Apart form Elms, the Shroton batsmen
were lacking patience. So batsman five Mcrea hit
Norman’s first ball for six but then had his off
stump removed on the next one. Guy Watson now chipped in
with three wickets but pride of place must go to Ryan
Norman, who finished with figures of 4 - 26 in eleven overs,
an outstanding performance on a small ground. So although
Shroton were always up with the required scoring rate, the
match ended in the thirty seventh over to leave Swanage as
worthy winners.

Date and place of Match: Sunday June 8 th, at
Home. League: NSA Sunday Division 3.
Scoreboard: Old Blandfordians 125
( S.White 30, S.Joyce 25. R.Norman 5 - 29, N.Ross 3 -
18.)
Swanage First Eleven 107
( M.Nash 43. S.White 3 - 19, S.Joyce 3 - 23.)
Result: Swanage lost by 18 runs.
Details: Ryan Norman and Nick Ross soon had Old
Blandfordians in trouble on a wet pitch at Days Park. Using
the wind to help their natural swing, these two reduced the
visitors to 33 - 5. After being dropped before scoring,
S.White, helped by S.Joyce, led the tail in a revival and it
was not until the forty fourth over that the returning
Norman caught and bowled M.Bacher to close the innings and
so claim his fifth wicket.
After an early loss, Mike Nash and Peter Clark were made
to work hard by opening bowlers S.White and S.Joyce. When
Clark was bowled for 18, much depended on Nash, since two
leading batsmen were missing. Nash was batting really well
until left arm spinner A.Joyce first deceived him in the air
and then bowled him during an excellent spell. Old
Blandfordians accurate bowling now took a grip on the game.
Swanage’s remaining six batsmen could only manage
half of the 51 runs needed as the delighted visitors claimed
the last wicket in the fortieth over.
