Result: Swanage won by 8 runs.
Details:
Despite their comfortable win last week, the Swanage
Sunday Firsts were still in the relegation zone as they
travelled to Fontmell Magna. Seb Warner and Ron Barker gave
the team a useful start by putting on 36 runs before they
both fell to catches on the slow pitch. Ian Booth and Ashley
King doubled the score before Booth was again caught. King
and Sean McLaney now played with increasing freedom as they
played some classy drives and pulls in the best batting of
the match. Just when they threatened to take the game away
from Fontmell, King attempted an over ambitious drive and
lost his off stump. However, McLaney stayed to play his best
innings for the club, which enabled the visitors to post a
challenging total.
Openers M. and P.Cheverton made life difficult for
bowlers Ron Barker and Ian Booth as they batted with
determination, putting the bad ball away for twos and fours.
It took a good catch from Mark Saddington to break the
partnership at 63. Fontmell continued to threaten as they
stayed up with the run rate by running audacious singles.
Another good catch, this time by Sean McLaney, dismissed
hitter S.Godeseth and J.Smith, who looked like winning the
game for Fontmell, was run out by an excellent throw form
Tatti King. But the score kept increasing : 160 -9 after
forty three overs and, as Ian Booth prepared to bowl the
final over of an excellent second spell, 165 - 9. Then
Fontmell’s number eleven hit the second ball high
to cover point where Adam King took a good catch to give the
spoils of a close game to a determined and delighted
Swanage.

Away to Bournemouth. League: East Dorset Under 12.
Details:
After losing a wicket to the first ball, Ricki King
played with great authority to establish the Swanage innings
and make a creditable 23. Will Baker gave fine support at
the other end in making 18. The other batsmen all chipped in
to take the total to 73 - 7.
The Bournemouth innings started very well with their
opening batsman making 27, when he had to retire. But Sam
Price bowled an excellent spell to bring Swanage back into
the game, taking 4 - 12 in his four overs. The atmosphere in
the last over was very tense as Bournemouth reached 73 - 8.
The result - a tie!
