Result: Swanage won by 53 runs.
Details:
Heartened by the return of Ryan Norman from injury and
the introduction of Ian Booth, Swanage returned to winning
ways at Wimborne. Nevertheless, it was Craig Wells who made
the first impression as he dominated an opening stand of
118. Wells gave a masterful display in the art of batting as
he hit four 6’s and ten 4’s in his 91.
His drives through extra cover were extra special and
included one of the sixes. Anton Howse provided an admirable
partner to Wells until he was bowled to become one of
R.Whittle’s four victims in his second spell.
South African Ian Booth then matched Wells with some
glorious front foot drives over the boundary. After off
spinner T.Bartlett had taken out the middle order, Andy
Avery and Jonathan Maidman sent Swanage into tea in good
heart with an unbroken stand of 28.
Determined batting from each one of the top five then
made life difficult for Swanage. Ryan Norman and Peter
Constable pinned the openers back but it was not until the
nineteenth over that Jonny Maidman took a stunning catch to
make the breakthrough. He sprinted along the boundary and,
having misjudged the flight of the ball, leapt high to
clutch it one handed back over his shoulder. When Craig
Wells launched himself horizontally at square leg to cling
on to a fierce pull shot off Norman, Swanage were inspired.
Norman then took three more wickets in his second spell to
build on earlier good bowling from Guy Watson. Flighted off
spin from skipper Wells then bought a couple of wickets to
give Swanage 19 points and a deserved victory

Home. League: NSA Sunday Division 3.
Scoreboard: Bournemouth and Old Bournemouthians 226
( J.Symons 94, C.Holcombe 29, D.Cattanach 25*, J.Bouson
20. S.McLaney 4 - 48, R.Wilcox 4 - 61.)
Swanage First Eleven 227 - 5
( M.Nash 66, D.Haines 53, P.Clark 25*, A.King 22.
J.Symons 3 - 45.)
Result: Swanage won by 5 wickets.
Details: J.Symons and C.Holcombe opened steadily for
Bournemouth, putting up 50 in fifteen overs. Holcombe had
looked the more dangerous after playing some fine drives
when Roger Wilcox deceived him in flight and had him caught
in the covers. Wilcox continued to vary his medium pace in
an important spell. J.Bouson had just hit a magnificent six
over long off before he became Wilcox’s third
victim when he was beaten in flight and stumped. With Sean
McLaney taking wickets at the other end, Swanage seemed to
be in control but Symons was still there and, helped by last
man Catternach, added 87 important runs in the last eleven
overs.
Mike Nash and David Haines approached the challenging
target with great determination and soon runs were flowing
over the fast outfield. With Nash driving through the covers
and Haines hitting the ball over the bowlers head, Swanage
enjoyed the glorious strokes and sensed a comfortable win.
Then three wickets fell with the score at 138. Peter Clark
and Sean Mclaney now added 51 before off spinner Avaz got
one through McLaney’s defence. With tension
mounting, Ashley King opened out with some lofted shots for
four in a well judged innings. He was eventually caught but
Clark was still there to help a delighted Swanage claim
their first victory since early June.
