at Home. League: NSA Saturday Division 2.
Scoreboard: Swanage 268 - 3
( C.Wells 116, N.Clark 48, A.Croft 32, G.Watson 30*,
A.Howse 25.)
Dorchester Second Eleven 197 - 8
( A.Ross 103, A.Smith 23. C.Wells 4 - 48, G.Watson 3 -
37.)
Result: Swanage won by 71 runs
Details:
A fine batting display maintained Swanage’s
strong promotion challenge at Day’s Park. The
start of the show was Craig Wells who reached a majestic
century with a huge pulled six. He shared an opening stand
of 78 with Anton Howse, which gave the middle order a good
platform. They built on this in style. Nick Clark raised the
tempo by hitting ten 4’s before being bowled. Guy
Watson then joined Wells in a partnership of 47 before Wells
was eventually prised from the crease. There was just time
for Andy Croft to smash 32 in the remaining five overs to
give Swanage a huge total.
Dorchester made little attempt to reach this total but
nevertheless batted with resilience. To overcome this
Swanage needed to hold on to their catches, which was
something that they failed to do. A.Ross was the lynchpin of
the Dorchester innings as he peppered the legside boundary
on his way to a defiant century. After thirty nine overs,
there were only three wickets down. When Guy Watson
dismissed Ross, Craig Wells floated his off breaks well to
pick up four late wickets. This left Swans satisfied with 19
points with just one game to go.

Scoreboard: Shaftesbury First Eleven 192 - 6
( R.Dunning 43, C.Price 36, P.Toogood 31, M.Rawlinson 21,
S.Cruise 20.)
Swanage First Eleven 99
Result: Swanage lost by 93 runs.
Details:
Determined bowling by Swanage was matched by Shaftesbury’s
batsmen on their very unreliable artificial pitch. All the
bowlers did well, especially Roger Wilcox and Tim Edgar, who
regularly passed the bat with excellent deliveries. When
these two finished their overs, C.Price and R.Dunning upped
the tempo for Shaftesbury in a 64 run partnership but Ian
Perry dismissed them both before the end.
In reply, twelve overs of hostile pace bowling from
C.Price ripped out three of Swanage’s top order.
However, Mike Nash stood firm to play his best innings of
the season. Regularly beaten by unplayable deliveries, Nash
defended phlegmatically until he was able to unleash a
series of fine drives through extra cover. Eventually he
became the second victim of first change Dawson, who then
ripped out the tail in a hostile spell, which left Peter
Barker undefeated on 19 and Swanage well beaten by a quality
side.

Scoreboard: Shaftesbury Second Eleven 100
( T.White 3 - 16.)
Swanage Second Eleven 102 - 4
( P.Dyer 45*.)
Result: Swanage won by 6 wickets.
Details:
An accurate spell of left arm seam bowling from Terry
White ensured that runs were scarce for Shaftesbury on a
good batting pitch. Wickets fell regularly with only
Williams and Penn making double figures. Matthew Avery, aged
10, and Terry Buck, aged 52, both took their first league
wickets for Swanage.
In reply, Swanage were indebted to Pete Dyer, who mixed
watchful defence with explosive attack to see Swanage home
with twenty overs to spare.
