Date and place of Match: Sunday August 17 th, at Home. League: NSA Sunday Division 3.

Scoreboard: Swanage First Eleven 190 - 9

(S.Warner 97, A.King 29, M.Nash 22, I.Perry 22.)

Sturminster and Hinton 171

( A.Rose 46, P.Fowles 37, S.Upshaw 32. R.Wilcox 6 - 52.)

Result: Swanage won by 19 runs.

Details:

Mike Nash and Seb Warner were pinned back by accurate bowling from Sturminster’s M. Upshaw and R. Fowles until Nash, frustrated by the low scoring rate, ran himself out. After Peter Clark was well caught at cover by G Crane, Ian Perry helped Warner take the score to 89-3 before second change G Crane clipped his off stump with a fine delivery. Warner, always determined, was now playing with increasing authority as he pulled the short ball with venom or drove half volleys over the bowlers head for four or six. He found an admirable partner in Ashley King, who played some fine shots past cover point on his own account. King was finally caught at 173 and Warner went soon afterwards. His crucial innings enabled Swanage to reach a higher total than seemed likely against a good bowling side.

Ron Barker and Ian Perry bowled excellent spells to strike two early blows for Swanage. Adrian Rose and Paul Fowles now dug in and, when change bowlers Roger Wilcox and Mike Nash came on, attacked the leg side boundary by hitting a succession of fours and sixes. Swanage were worried, but in Wilcox’s third over, Rose drove to deep mid off where Ashley King took a good catch and in his fourth he trapped Fowles leg before wicket. In a fine spell, Wilcox now gained two more wickets to make the score 112-6. However, Sturminster were not finished as S Upshaw counter attacked. It was not until the forty third over that Swanage prevailed in a game of much fine bowling and fielding, but only one outstanding innings - that of Seb Warner.

Date and place of Match: Sunday August 17 th, Away. League: NSA Sunday Division 8.

Scoreboard: Swanage Second Eleven 153 - 7

(J.Davis 35, C.Tomes 22*. P.McCann 3 - 24.)

Pimperne 154 - 0

(D.Williams 105*, P.McCann 43*.)

Result: Swanage lost by 10 wickets.

Details:

Swanage Seconds were trounced, but not disgraced, at Pimperne by a very strong side who clearly should be playing well above division 8. Pete Dyer batted well early on, in an opening partnership of 36 against some very quick bowling. Later James Davis and Terry Buck added 60 for the fourth wicket and Chris Tomes hit four 4’s in an over. In reply, D. Williams batted superbly for his century as Pimperne knocked off the runs in the 22nd over.
