Date and place of Match: Saturday August 2 nd,
Away. League: NSA Saturday Division 2.
Scoreboard: Shaftesbury 112
( J.Sean 25. P.Constable 3 - 23.)
Swanage 113 - 0
( C.Wells 63*, A.Howse 27*.)
Result: Swanage won by 10 wickets.
Details:
Swanage’s opening bowlers and batsmen took the
team to an overwhelming victory on the temporary artificial
pitch at Shaftesbury, but it was not as easy as the scores
suggest. With the ball coming through at varying heights,
Peter Constable and Guy Watson proved a real handful for the
Shaftesbury top order with two accurate spells. Between the
eighth and the thirteenth over, their inspired bowling
rooted out the top five, aided by two catches in the gully
from David Haines. Determined batting from the lower order
staged a partial recovery for Shaftesbury, but Ian Perry
bowled J.Sean with a yorker, which left spinners Craig Wells
and David Haines to finish off the innings with a couple of
wickets each.
In their turn, the Shaftesbury opening bowlers, I Dawson
and G.Hipworth, made life difficult for Craig Wells and
Anton Howse, who battled to survive and score at 2 runs an
over. Hipworth was particularly impressive, bowling his
first nine overs for only 13 runs. However, Wells and Howse,
knowing that they had plenty of time, showed tactical sense
and the pressure eased considerable when the change bowlers
came on. The last 50 runs came in only ten overs as Wells
played some favourite four shots to lead the side to
victory.

at Home. League: NSA Sunday Division 3.
Scoreboard: Swanage First Eleven 311 - 3
( I.Booth 151*, P.Clark 42*, S.Warner 41, T.Edgar 23.)
Cheselbourne 200
( R.Kellaway 83, P.Taylor 33. N.Ross 5 - 66.)
Result: Swanage won by 111 runs.
Details:
Roger and Tony Kellaway made life difficult for Swanage
in their opening overs with movement in the air and off the
drying pitch. After an early loss Seb Warner and Tim Edgar
had got the innings going well when Edgar was caught and
bowled by Roger Kellaway. Enter Ian Booth. Those present
were now treated to a superb display of classical
batsmanship from the visiting South African. Driving
gloriously, pulling ferociously and cutting delicately,
Booth made full use of the short boundary as he hit seven
6’s and fourteen 4’s in his 151*. He put
on 89 with Seb Warner and an unbroken 182 with Peter Clark.
After tea, Cheselbourne responded spiritedly to their
daunting task. But on 23, Nick Ross deceived G.Bramble with
a change of pace and bowled him. Roger Kellaway continued to
play very well, driving cleanly past mid off and pulling
firmly to the legside. Kellaway was peppering the boundary
with 4’s until an excellent catch by Seb Warner at
deep mid wicket dismissed him. Cheselbourne continued to
play with spirit but were unable to maintain the previous
high scoring rate. A late burst from the persevering Nick
Ross was needed to finish the innings as the visitors just
made the 200. Mainly due to the efforts of Ian Booth and
Nick Ross, Swanage were left with a big victory and their
third win in a row.
