Details:

Swanage were given first use of a slow pitch in their first game of the season at Compton House. After a steady start 2 wickets fell to catches in one over from J Buxton, leaving the Swans in a spot of bother. Dave Rodbourne mounted a recovery with opener Nick Clark as they put on 60 for the third wicket. After Rodbourne was caught in the twenty third over for a useful 30, skipper Guy Watson continued the good work as he and Clark hit powerfully to take the score to 151 for 3. Disaster then struck as the Swans lost their last 7 wickets for just 12 runs. Clarks gutsy knock was ended by M. Harper who, along with the left arm spin of R Dunning, proved too much for Swanage’s lower order. With a score of 163, Swanage were about 30 runs short of what they would have liked.

In reply, Compton House got off to a cracking start, reaching 60 in just 10 overs as they profited from some loose Swanage bowling. Despite two fine catches in the deep from Craig Wells, Swans were never able to stem the flow of runs. Taking wickets was their only hope and a combination of some bad luck and their weakened attack meant they were unable to do this. A partnership of 90 from R. Dunning and M. Simon was full of lusty blows to the leg side and ensured Compton house raced to their target in just thirty overs. Swanage will need an improved performance if they are to beat Marnhull at Days Park on Saturday.

In reply, the Swanage batsmen were no match for Sam Diment’s pace bowling. Nevertheless, this weak side took heart at the determination shown with both bat and ball.
