Scoreboard: Bournemouth and Old Bournemouthians 70

( R.Norman 6 - 38. )

Swanage 71 - 0

( C.Wells 49*. )

Result: Swanage won by 10 wickets.

Details:

Ryan Norman devastated Bournemouth’s Saturday side with a six wicket haul to follow up his five wickets against their Sunday side last week. Bowling with rhythm and pace, Norman regularly passed the outside edge. In his fine twelve over spell, he knocked the stumps over five times and had his other victim caught at slip. In support, Aussie Craig Matthews again bowled a mean spell as first change to earn figures of 2 - 11, while Peter Kirby needed just ten balls to get the final two wickets.

The pitch was still slow and low when Swanage batted but when Bournemouth strayed to the legside, Craig Wells hit high and hard. His aggressive innings contained no fewer than five sixes. In support, Nick Clark contributed a six over long off as Swanage raced to victory in less than nine overs.

( D.Tomes 21*, P.Highland 12, D.Lowe !2*. J.Fifield 2 - 3. )

Result: a tie.

Details:

With nine of the side being in the under thirteen age group, Swange did well to compete to the last in an exciting twenty over game. Milton danger man J.Fifield mauled Sam Thompson’s opening over, but Thompson came back in style to bowl the other opener off the last ball. After Paul Hyland bowled Fifield at the other end, wickets fell regularly to these two bowlers. Then Christopher Kirby and Daniel Avery bowled accurately to finish the innings eight overs early.

Swanage did not have the striking power of the Milton batsmen but, after losing both opening batsmen for nought, Darren Tomes dug in against skilled leg break bowling from Fifield. Helped by Highland, Kirby and Daniel Lowe, Tomes steered the team towards the Milton total in a fine captain’s innings. However, four runs were still needed for victory off the last over. Amid rising excitement, two were still needed off the last ball but Swanage could only manage a bye to tie an excellent game.
