Date and place of Match: Saturday June 8 th, Home. League:
NSA Saturday Division 1.
Scoreboard: Swanage 155 - 8
( N.Clark 46. R.Baker 3 - 35, S.Jones 3 - 38.)
Beaminster 157 - 4
( J.Watts 36, C.Park 33, S.Jones 31*. )
Result: Swanage lost by 6 wickets.
Details:
Craig Wells and Nick Clark made a steady start against
accurate Beaminster bowling on a very wet pitch and outfield.
With the score at 43, outswing bowler R.Baker was brought into
the attack. He immediately deceived Wells into chipping a
catch to mid off. Nick Clark now started to prosper, hitting
leg spinner S.Rowe for a straight six over the pavilion.
However, he was caught behind with the score at 87 from off
spinner Therington’s quicker ball. Baker and
Therington continued to bowl well and pinned back
Swanage’s middle order. Despite good contributions
from Andy Croft and Craig Matthews, Swanage failed to look for
singles and ended up about twenty runs short of what they
wanted.
With the sun now shining, life was easier for the
Beaminster openers C.Park and M.David. They batted patiently
against steady bowling, putting on 66 before first change Ian
Perry despatched them both. Left hander J.Watts now assumed
control and, despite an excellent second spell from Ryan
Norman, eased Beaminster towards victory in the thirty seventh
over.
