Details:

After an exciting , rain affected game was initially reduced to 41 overs, Guy Watson put Dorchester in and took three wickets in his first seven overs of swing bowling. Rain intervened and S.Joslin and N.Paul then put together a crucial partnership of 130 runs, Swanage being handicapped by the wet ball.

Dorchester had to bat on after tea to complete their 41 overs. The Swanage innings was now reduced to 30 overs and the target proportionately to 126. After losing an early wicket, Craig Wells and Craig Matthews batted well to raise the score to 74 before Wells was deceived in the air by spinner N.Joslin. 52 runs were now needed in 14 overs. Despite further drizzle, Dorchester bowlers stuck to their task and kept taking wickets. When the last over started, eight wickets were down and 3 runs were needed. M.Derrien bowled Craig Matthews off the first ball. Andy Avery was now in the situation that every nu,mber eleven dreams about. He hit the next ball for a single and Bill Jones did the same on the next ball. No runs came from balls four and five leaving Avery to ‘do or die’ off the last ball. He swung, missed, and was bowled, leaving a delighted Dorchester the winners on a marginally higher run rate.
