Details:

After an early cameo from Craig Wells, Nick Clark and Guy Watson patiently built the Swanage innings. B.Smith, Andrew Nurton and D.Miles all bowled well to limit the scoring rate until Watson was out in the thirty second over with the score at 136. However, Clark was now driving gloriously through the covers and starting to dominate the bowling. The persevering Nurton bowled him in the fortieth over for an impressive ninety. The other batsmen did not manage to increase the tempo so that the final total appeared adequate, but not impressive.

Guy Watson disposed of both openers in a good opening spell but the Swanage bowling at the other end was so poor that Andrew Nurton and R.Carter scored with ease at seven an over in a crucial third wicket stand of 132. When Craig Wells bowled Carter with the score at 167, Swanage sniffed victory but a crucial catch from Nurton off the same bowler was spilled at mid off soon afterwards. After playing an excellent innings, Nurton was eventually dismissed but it was too late to affect the result. Swanage were left ruing the fact that the extras, which they had conceded, contributed more than a quarter of Sherborne’s runs, which had severely limited their chances of winning a good game of cricket.

Date and place of Match: Sunday July 21 st, at Home. League: NSA Sunday Division 3.

Scoreboard: Swanage First Eleven 294 - 3

( N.Clark 117, J.Harris 80, T.Holland 22*.)

Bournemouth and Old Bournemouthians 85 - 8

( R.Norman 4 - 15.)

Result: Swanage won by 209 runs.

Details:

Openers Nick Clark and James Harris were soon piling up the runs against an understrength Bournemouth side. Both gave a masterful display of driving and running between the wickets as they put together a massive 219 run opening partnership. When Clark finally went, Harris and Theo Holland led the charge to the huge total. S.Potter was Bournemouth’s best bowler, getting a wicket with his deceptive slower ball in the last over.

In reply, a fine spell of quick bowling from Ryan Norman ensured that Bournemouth’s innings never got going. He was supported by quality catching by keeper Harris and the infielders. Number 5, Chris Charlton, stonewalled for thirty five overs for his 17*, putting on 45 with R.Coombs but failed to obtain the first batting point. Overall, Swanage’s enthusiastic side never let up and deserved this huge win.
