2002 Season Results

31 August  2002

Date and place of Match: Saturday August 31 st, Away. League: NSA Saturday Division 1.

Scoreboard: Blandford 344 - 1

( S.Webb 160*, P.Knight 63, A.White 56*.)

Swanage 79

( S.Sawney 4 - 18.)

Result: Swanage lost by 265 runs.

Details:

A Swanage side which was weakened by the absence of its five leading players, suffered a further reverse when Bill Jones dislocated a shoulder when diving for a catch early in the game. Openers Steve Webb and P.Knight initially exploited the situation with patience but when Knight was out, aggressive hitting by Webb and A.White overwhelmed the bowlers to add 163 runs in the last fifteen overs.

In reply, the Swanage batsmen resisted the Blandford opening bowlers for a time but Sunil Sawney cleaned out the middle order with an excellent spell of fast medium bowling. Having had points deducted for failing to submit umpires reports, this Saturday side are now in line for relegation to Division 2 after a disappointing season.

Date and place of Match: Sunday September 1 st, Away. League: NSA Sunday Division 3.

Scoreboard: Cheselbourne 258 - 5

( A.Legg 131, G.Kellaway 43, D.Connor 42*. T.Edgar 4 - 66.)

Swanage First Eleven 76 - 6

( A.Legg 3 - 12.)

Result: Swanage lost by 182 runs.

Details:

Playing his first game of the season, A.Legg sent Swanage to a huge defeat by dominating the game with both bat and ball. Frequently advancing down the pitch to drive straight or hit over mid wicket, he struck the ball cleanly in a fine innings containing two 6’s and fifteen 4’s. Swanage contributed to their own downfall by slack fielding and catching early on.

When Swanage batted, only Terry Buck, Nick Brown and Jonathan Maidman were able to make any headway against persistent quick bowling from Roger Kellaway and A.Legg.

Date and place of Match: Sunday September 1 st, at Home. League: NSA Sunday Division 8.

Scoreboard: Swanage Second Eleven 91

( A.Howse 29. T.Patten 4 - 33.)

Winton Sports 94 - 2

( R.Hill 36*, J.Francis 24*, K.Parker 24.)

Result: Swanage lost by 8 wickets.

Details:

An accomplished Winton side sealed promotion with a comfortable victory over Swanage. Nevertheless, Winton were delayed by Anton Howse, who put on 57 for the first wicket with Pete Barker, and later delayed by accurate bowling from Callum Brierley, Sean McLaney and Richard Perry. Despite these two defeats, both Sunday sides have had better years and they have both finished in mid table.
