Scoreboard: Swanage 224 - 5

( C.Wells 64, A.Croft 42*, N.Clark 39, A.House 26.)

( M.Carroll, 54, P.Williams 51, C.Wayatt 22. C.Wells 3 - 37.)

Result: Swanage lost by 2 wickets.

Details:

Craig Wells and Nick Clark successfully combated the swinging ball to put on 91 for the first wicket. When Clark was caught behind, Charlie Wycherley kept up the momentum but when he was bowled, Wayfarers pulled back the scoring rate. They were rewarded by having Wells caught on the boundary after a patient innings punctuated by some majestic shots through mid wicket. Andy Croft now provided the necessary urgency, adding 65 in the last eight overs, with good support from Anton Howse.

Wayfarers’ reply instantly achieved the required run rate through good straight hitting. The Swanage bowlers also helped with wides, as they gave away 50 extras during the whole innings. Two quick wickets from Ian Perry then pegged Wayfarers back to 100 - 3 after twenty overs. When M.Carroll joined the confident Phil Williams, he hit his first ball for six over mid wicket. Craig Wells late introduction then gave Swanage hope with three wickets but Carroll had got 54 quick runs before Wells had him caught behind. With further wickets falling, the finish was tense but Wayfarers reached their target with three overs to go.

Date and place of Match: Sunday August 25 th, at Home. League: NSA Sunday Division 3.

Scoreboard: Swanage 147 - 7

( M.Nash 47, T.Edgar 29, A.Avery 28*, R.Wilcox 20. Priest 4 - 45.)

Broadstone 128 - 3

( S.Leadbetter 46*, S.Brown, 22, K.Brewer 20.)

Result: Swanage lost by 7 wickets after rain stopped the second innings.

Details:

Broadstone’s opening bowlers P.Farrant and Simon Leadbetter proved a handful on a dry, seaming pitch to take two wickets before Swanage had scored. Mike Nash and Tim Edgar slowly repaired the damage before Edgar’s well paced innings was ended by left arm spinner Priest with the score at 78. The Broadstone spinners continued to exert pressure through accurate bowling and only an enterprising knock by Andy Avery took Swanage as far as the low score of 147.

In reply, although Tim Edgar and Peter Kirby bowled mean spells, Broadstone found runs easy to get at the other end. When a thunderstorm intervened after thirty four overs, Broadstone were well ahead of the required run rate and so were awarded a comfortable victory.
