TEAMS FOR 2001 SEASON

As you may well know there has been a lot of discussion throughout the latter part of the season as to how many sides we will try to field next year and what level of cricket these sides should play. This has come about because of the lack of quality players and the lack of personnel to run and organise these sides which has left a great strain on some of those who do organise them at the moment.
A few weeks ago a players meeting was held at the Club when everybody present was able to express their views to the Committee so that the Committee could take an informed decision on this very important matter.
The Committee met last week and after further lengthy discussion from all those present a vote was t aken and the unanimous decision was that the Saturday XI will become our 1st XI now they have won promotion to Division 1 and hopefully get into the Premier. Our existing Sunday 1st XI will be dropped. Our present Sunday 2nd XI will become our Sunday 1s t XI, hopefully staying in Division 3. Then we will enter a new side, our Sunday 2nd XI, in Division 8.
The Division 8 side will be used to bring on some of the youngsters that are coming through our Youth Section and also hopefully give a better game of cricket to the several very keen, not so gifted, players that have been the mainstay of this years 2nd XI.
The Committee feel that this is a decision to secure the future of the Club and not necessarily a step back. For this decision to succeed both Sunday sides need several senior personnel including any new players to help run the sides. We have already got a couple of players interested in Captaining the sides but it takes more than one to keep the side going, please come forward to help, this incl udes the very important posts of Team Secretary.
In time we expect both sides to find their right level and hopefully this will involve more wins than losses and hopefully a promotion or two.
Good luck for 2001
