Date of Match: Saturday, June 10th, Away. League: PCB Saturday Division 2.
Scoreboard:
Ferndown 220 - 6 ( D.Howe 53, D.Fillingham 40, C.Jennings 37*, P.Martin 25.)
Swanage 224 - 2 ( C.Wells 126*, G.Watson 62*.)
Result: Swanage won by 8 wickets.

Details: On an excellent pitch for batting at Ferndown, their openers P.Martin and D.Howe put on 90 in twentythree overs. Ryan Norman bowled another good spell but Guy Watson’s line was unusually wayward. When the opening pair were parted, C.Jennings and D.Fillingham raised the scoring rate with a combination of keen running and fierce hitting, which made the Swanage fielding look increasingly ordinary. Swanage’s batsmen struggled early on against an outstanding spell of bowling from D.Balham. Swinging the ball in a large amount, and often late, he took 2 - 17 in his twelve overs, which included eight maidens. However, Craig Wells was still there. Fielding with enthusiasm, Ferndown posted six men on the boundary. So Wells and Watson, who needed 179 in thirtythree overs, had to get them in singles. They stayed calm at the large task ahead, but it looked as if the game would go to the last over. With victory in sight, Wells opened out with three cover drives for four and a straight six, to win the game with two overs to spare. With all the right options being taken in a difficult situation, this massive but unspectacular partnership was one for the connoisseur to savour.

Date of Match: Sunday, June 11th, Home. League: PCB Sunday Division 1.
Scoreboard:
Corfe Mullen 179 - 9 ( S. Chapman 58, S.Hendry 43, N.Walpole 28. C.Elfes 3 - 27.)
Swanage First Eleven 162 - 7 ( C.Wells 66, P.Clark 34. S.Merrell 5 - 63.)
Result: Swanage lost by 17 runs.

Details: On a good batting pitch, S.Hendry and C.Lewis opened confidently for Corfe Mullen but they were pinned back by accurate bowing by Mark Parsons and Ryan Norman. . When Hendry joined Chapman, they took control, hitting some huge sixes off loose leg side deliveries. The game appeared to be going away from Swanage until a good spell of off spin bowing from Chris Elfes dismissed Hendry, and then two others. However, Corfe Mullen’s lower order did well, putting on 53 runs in the last ten overs. Craig Wells and Mike Nash opened strongly for Swanage, scoring at over three an over. Corfe Mullen’s outcricket was good, as exemplified by the brilliant catch on the boundary by J.Fortescue to dismiss Nash. Fortescue was in the middle of a hostile spell of bowling. He started with four maidens and conceded only twenythree runs off his twelve overs. Slow scoring in the middle of the innings pushed up the rate needed to over six an over. When Wells was out to the persevering Merrel, Peter Clark and Chris Elfes struck the ball hard but Corfe Mullen’s enthusiastic bowling and fielding won the day. _
