Date of
Match: Saturday, July 22nd, Home.
League: PCB Saturday Division 2.
Scoreboard: Swanage 293 - 3
( N.Clark 130, C.Wells 97, J.Clark 28*.)
Compton House 272 - 9
( N.Price 90, P.Dobson 60, R.Dunning 29,
S.Wildur 28*. P.Kirby 7 - 42.)
Result: Swanage won by 21 runs.
Details:
A record opening partnership of 212
between Craig Wells and Nick Clark
enabled Swanage to amass a huge score at
Days Park. However, for the second
week running, a large total was seriously
challenged by a team who refused to
accept defeat. Fast bowler, R.White, was
not the force which he had been in recent
weeks but Wells and Clark still needed to
play him carefully. Soon Wells was
producing fierce cover drives and some
magnificent pull shots. Also excelling
with the pull, Nick Clark was hitting
straight, including one huge six over the
pavilion. Later, Jonny Clark helped his
elder brother put on 65 in the last six
overs.
The Compton reply purred easily into high
gear with Dobson and Price in commanding
form in a second wicket partnership of
121. Defensively sound, Price used the
lofted drive over mid-wicket to such
effect that every over seemed to include
at least a 6 or 4, as well as numerous
singles. Compton were on target with the
high scoring rate required at 100, and
again at 200. Then, left arm spinner,
Peter Kirby imposed his will on the game.
First he trapped Dobson leg before
wicket, before dismissing Price from a
useful midwicket catch by Peter Clark.
Compton kept going, but so did Kirby to
quell their spirited challenge, which
included twelve 6s.

Scoreboard: Wayfareres 144 - 9
( N.Hymas 42, P.Stacey 42, P.Williams 22*.
M.Parsons 3 - 31, S.Warner 3 - 44.)
Swanage First Eleven 145 - 1
( C.Wells 87*, N.Clark 45.)
Result: Swanage won by 9 wickets.
Details: After being put into bat,
Wayfarers struggled with the accurate
bowling of Mark Parsons and Ryan Norman.
Hymas and Stacey took the score to 88
before Peter Kirby bowled Hymas. Kirbys
spell of 2 - 9 in twelve overs was a
magnificent display of left arm spin
bowling. Owing to him, the Wayfarers
innings never gained momentum. As
Wayfarers tried to increase the run rate,
Swanage picked up four wickets in the
last three overs.
A fine opening partnership of 116 between
Craig Wells and Nick Clark set up an easy
win for Swanage in the thirty-third over.
Wells was at his commanding best in an
innings which included three 6s and
ten 4s. Next week, the formidable
Parley will be a much greater challenge
to a side which has yet to win a close
game.

Scoreboard: Mudeford 206 - 6
( R.Wyatt 71*, M.Pownell 39, A.Sharples
32, T.Sevens 22.
S. McLaney 3 - 58, M.Savage 3 - 58. )
Swanage Second Eleven 154 - 6 in 41 overs.
( T.Mister 48*, J.Harris 35, T.Buck 25. L.Wilkinson
3 - 32.)
Result: Swanage lost by 33 runs after
being set a rain reduced target of 187.
Report: A better bowling performance by
Sean McLaney, Tim Mister, Mark Savage and
Roger Wilcox reduced Mudeford to 140 - 6
in the thirty-seventh over. However,
Wyatt powered the home side to above 200
with some strong straight driving. Wyatt
was dropped several times, which left
Swanages best bowler, Sean McLaney,
deserving more than his three wickets.
James Harris and Terry Buck got the
innings going with a partnership of 56.
Harris looked good on his return from
university. Later, Tim Mister and Mark
Savage also batted well in a partnership
of 51. While rarely looking like
achieving their rain reduced target,
Swanage gained four batting points to
emphasise an improved team performance.
